64.Pre – Devotion

Do you know a missionary? Your church might support a missionary and his or her family, or you may have met one. Missionaries are people who go to new places to share God’s Word with people who may not have heard it before. The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has over two hundred missionaries who live all around the world. They tell people about who Jesus is and how He loves them, and they also help people by caring for them. God wants all people in the world to be saved, so missionaries have a very important job.

There were also lots of missionaries in the Bible. When Jesus told His disciples to go and baptize people from all nations, His disciples listened to Him and followed His command. God sent the Holy Spirit to the apostles so that they could tell the Good News of Jesus to people from many cultures and nations. He also sent the Holy Spirit to the people who listened to the apostles, so that they would believe in God’s Word and share it too.

Missionaries aren’t the only people today who share God’s Word. God also sends the Holy Spirit to live in us so that we can tell people about Jesus in our communities. You can share God’s Word with people at school, church, or anywhere you go! The Holy Spirit will be with us wherever we go, giving us faith and strengthening us to share His Word.

  1. What does a missionary do? Why are they important?
  2. Where can you share God’s Word? Who can you share it with?
  3. What is the role of the Holy Spirit in our faith and in sharing God’s Word?

Let’s pray:

Dear Lord, thank You for sending Your Spirit to the apostles so they could spread the Gospel to people around the world. Please keep Your Spirit living in us, so we can believe in God’s Word and share it with the people in our lives. In Your name we pray. Amen.
