60.Pre – Devotion

Imagine what it would be like to be a spy for a day. You’d spend your day sneaking around in the shadows, staying out of the public eye. You would be given an extremely important top-secret mission to complete without anyone finding out anything. Keeping secrets is an essential skill for a spy. You can’t let anyone even think they know something. The risk is high, but the stakes are even higher. The mission is worth the risk.

While it’s unlikely you’re a spy, you do have a very important mission! Jesus gave us the essential mission of sharing God’s Word with others. No other mission could possibly be more important, and no other mission has eternal value. Jesus’ message is meant to be heard by everyone. God created the whole world, and He loves everyone in it and wants them to be saved.

But unlike spies, our mission isn’t confidential. In fact, it’s not a secret at all! God tells us that we should proudly declare that He has redeemed us from our sins. The apostle Paul writes, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). Jesus didn’t come to earth to forgive only some people—He came to forgive everyone. And everyone deserves to know that God loves them and has forgiven them.

It’s our mission to share the Good News with the whole world. We fulfill that mission by going out into our communities, our churches, our schools, our workplaces, and the whole world, proclaiming the Good News of Jesus. We tell others about how Jesus loves everyone, how He forgives us of our sins and gives us everlasting life. We can also share God’s Word with others by following His Word and loving other people as He commanded us to do.

  1. Who is someone who told you about Jesus? What did you learn from this person?
  2. Who is someone you can tell about Jesus? What will you tell him or her?
  3. How can you make sharing the Gospel part of your daily life?

Let’s pray:

Dear God, You have told us to share Your Word with people everywhere. Please show us where we can tell people about how great Your love is, and let us not keep it a secret. Thank You for loving us and forgiving us. In Your name we pray. Amen.
