69.K – Devotion

Imagine you just bought a new phone or computer. You’re really excited to use it, but you can’t figure out how to connect it to the internet. You ask a librarian for help, and he gives you a book about the internet from 1990. Will this book help you? No! The internet has changed so much since then, and phones and computers like yours probably didn’t exist in 1990.

Old books can be interesting, but they’re not always helpful or true. Sometimes “facts” that were written in old books are later found to be false. Sometimes advice and information in old books is outdated and unhelpful. Since the Bible was written a long time ago, some people think it is untrue or unhelpful. We know that the Bible is God’s Word! The Bible doesn’t just have some truth inside; the Bible is truth. It will never become outdated. The letters written to Christians in Bible times are helpful for us, and they speak truth to us.

The Bible tells us that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). Jesus died on the cross to forgive the sins of the people living during that time, and He died on the cross to forgive your sins too! We have joy even in tough times because of God’s love for us. The Holy Spirit helps us to grow in our faith and show God’s love to others. All these truths were written in letters to Christians a couple thousand years ago, and they are just as true for you!

  1. What truths does the Bible teach us?
  2. When do you read the Bible? If you don’t usually read the Bible every day, try creating a routine so you can make it a habit.
  3. What would you say to someone who believes the Bible is too old to be helpful and true?

Let’s pray:

Dear God, thank You for giving us Your Word in the Bible. Help us to read it, understand it, and apply it to our lives. Help us to share it with others so they can trust in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
