How much do you have in common with the Queen of England? Probably not much. Her house, hobbies, and lifestyle are much different than yours. If you had the chance to meet her, you might have an interesting conversation with her, but eventually you’d probably run out of things to talk about. Because of your different life experiences, she might struggle to understand your feelings and ideas. You might not understand her, either, since you haven’t lived a royal life like hers.
Jesus is truly God, but He completely understands our feelings and ideas. Why? Because He is one of us! He was born a human baby. He got hungry and thirsty, and He cried when He was sad.
Jesus never sins, but He completely understands the struggles we face. Hebrews 4:15 tells us, “We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness with food, power, and glory. We often fall to those temptations, but Jesus faced them head-first and He still never sinned!
Jesus was baptized, just like many Christians. It might seem strange for someone who is sinless to be baptized. When Jesus was baptized, He took all our sins on Himself and drowned them. On the cross, He paid for them, once and for all. We are saved from our sins because our sinless God became a person and took them from us!
