2.K – Devotion

You’ve probably learned that humans need food, water, and shelter to live. That’s true, but Christians know there is one more thing on the list: a Savior!

We need a Savior because of sin. Sin broke the world when Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate the fruit that He told them not to eat. Before sin, Adam and Eve’s bodies were perfect and they only experienced love and joy. Now they would experience pain, frustration, and death. Their sin passed to their children, and their children’s lives were also broken. Cain killed his brother Abel out of jealousy and tried to hide it from God! We sin and we live in the same broken world. We get hurt, we hurt others, and we disobey God all the time.

Even though Adam and Eve sinned, God still loved them! He wanted them to live with Him forever, so He promised to send them a Savior. As God was telling Adam and Eve what their broken, sin-filled lives would be like, He also told them that their child would one day crush Satan. Generations later, Jesus was born into their family. He crushed Satan and defeated sin and death when He died and rose again! Even though Cain killed his brother, God promised to be with him and protect him. God promises to be with us too! We experience pain and sadness in our broken lives, but God is always with us. He sent us a Savior, so we will get to live with God forever in heaven, where our bodies and lives will be perfect again.

  1. How is your body and life broken by sin? What makes you sad, angry, or hurt?
  2. How does God show you He loves you, even though you sin?
  3. When you experience pain and sadness because of sin and death, how does our Savior give you hope?

Let’s pray:

Dear God, we confess that we are sinful, just like Adam and Eve. Please forgive us, and be with us when we experience pain and sadness. Thank You for always loving us and for sending us a Savior to forgive our sins. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
