53.3 – Devotion

Hosanna! Have you ever heard this word before? It’s not a word that most people use. Sometimes, people say this word at church, especially on a special day called Palm Sunday.

A long time ago, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, and people ran up to greet Him! They waved palm branches and threw their coats on the ground to “pave” the way for Jesus. They also shouted “Hosanna!” If you’ve ever heard it said or sung at church, you know it sounds like a happy word. But what does it mean? Hosanna means “Lord, save us!” Is that what you expected? When you call for rescue, is it usually happy?

In a movie, when people are in trouble and see a hero, they cheer. They know help is on the way! When people saw Jesus, they knew help was on the way! But what kind of help? Do you know why Jesus was coming to Jerusalem?

Jesus was coming to pave the way to heaven for us. In order to do that, He had to die for our sins, rise from the dead, and ascend into heaven to get everything ready. That is one amazing road! Because Jesus did all those things for us, we don’t have to be afraid of death. Jesus won eternal life for everyone. In faith, we believe that Jesus saved us and know that He truly did come to help us. Hosanna!

  1. When do you need help? Who helps you? Thank God for those people!
  2. How does it make you feel to know that Jesus loves you so much that He died and rose for you?
  3. How does Jesus help you today, as we all still wait for Him to come again?

Let’s pray:

Dear Jesus, Hosanna! Please save us! Thank You for rescuing us from our sins. Please help us when things get sad or scary. Remind us that You will come again someday and rescue us from all sadness. In Your name we pray. Amen.
