51.3 – Devotion

If you could have any superpower, what would it be? It’s fun to imagine flying and having super strength, because we know we can’t actually do those things. We have human bodies, and we’re stuck doing the ordinary things that our bodies can do.

God created the universe, and He is more powerful than everything in the universe! He knows everything, and He can do anything. Jesus is completely God, and He’s completely human. Jesus’ body looked just like our bodies, but He was able to do things that no regular human could do.

In the transfiguration, Jesus showed His glory and reminded everyone that He is not a regular human. No regular human could appear with Moses and Elijah and shine bright, like He did. God wouldn’t call any regular human His beloved Son.

Jesus’ disciples were amazed when they saw His glory in the transfiguration! Very soon, though, they would have to watch Jesus die on the cross. It was a very sad time for them. But three days later, they saw His glory again when He rose and defeated death!

Our lives can be very sad sometimes. Because of our sin, we get hurt. We watch our friends and family get hurt. Because we’re regular humans, we can’t stop ourselves from dying someday. We have Jesus on our side, though, and He’s no regular human! Because He defeated death, we get to live forever! Jesus promises that He’ll bring us to heaven, where we’ll never be sad and we’ll get to see His glory all the time.

  1. What makes you sad? What can you remember when you are sad or hurt?
  2. Can you name some things Jesus did on earth that no regular human could do?
  3. How can you give glory to Jesus?

Let’s pray:

Dear Jesus, thank You for dying on the cross and defeating death for us. You are truly God, and we praise You for Your glory! Please be with us when we are sad or hurt, and remind us of the eternal life You promise us. In Your name we pray. Amen.
