1.3 – Devotion

Do you like to create things? Maybe you like to build with bricks, bake sweet treats, or design beautiful artwork. God gave people the gift of creativity, and we give Him glory when we use our gifts in good ways.

Even though we talk about “creating” things, God is the only One who can actually create. He didn’t use any instructions or ingredients when He created the universe. He made everything just by speaking His Word! He created our universe, galaxy, and planet. He created more animals and plants than we can name. He created human beings and gave them bodies, minds, and souls to give Him glory. He did all of that in only six days!

Everything that God created was perfect, but we humans messed it up. We brought sin into the world, which broke God’s perfect creation. We use our bodies and minds to hurt others and to disobey God. We don’t treat animals, plants, or the environment with respect.

Even though we messed up God’s creation, He didn’t give up on us! He sent His Son, Jesus, to live in this broken world with us. Jesus died on a cross made from a tree to save us from our sins. God brings us into His family through Baptism when we are washed by water from oceans and lakes. We read God’s Word in a Bible made of paper from trees, and it is taught to us by humans. We receive forgiveness in the Lord’s Supper, which is made from grapes and wheat. God’s creation is such a wonderful gift!

  1. Look around and name some of God’s creations that you can see. What are some of your favorites?
  2. How have you seen people abuse God’s creation?
  3. What can you do to protect God’s gift of creation in your everyday life?

Let’s pray:

Dear God, thank You for creating the universe, the world, and our family. Forgive us when we abuse Your gift of creation and disobey You. Help us to protect Your gifts and use them to give You glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
