46.2 – Devotion

If you are hosting a garage sale, what do you need to do to set it up? After you find items to sell, you’ll have to decide on prices. A brand new T-shirt is probably worth more than an old, tattered T-shirt. There might be some things you might not want but also aren’t in good enough condition to sell at the garage sale. Not many people would be interested in buying something broken.

If we were items being considered for a garage sale, we would’ve gone straight into the trash can. To be honest, we’re not worth anything at all. None of us are. Every person is sinful because of our human nature, and by ourselves, we can’t do anything good. We aren’t worthy enough to go to God, not even close! Our sin is a sickness that has infected every person down to the core, and there’s nothing we can do to cure it.

Thankfully, that’s not the end of the story. Even though we are sinful and unworthy, God is so much more gracious and merciful to us! He makes us worthy and forgiven through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus died for our sins and rose from the grave to mark His victory over sin and death forever. Through Jesus, we have been cured of the sickness of sin. We are no longer worthless; we are fully worthy, and we are His own.

  1. Why are we worthless? How does Jesus make us worthy?
  2. How would you encourage someone who was feeling worthless?
  3. How should we respond to God making us worthy?

Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father, we know that we are sinful and unworthy of Your love and goodness. Thank You for Your mercy, which You showed through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Help us to find our worth in You instead of in worldly things. In Your name we pray. Amen.
