4.Pre – Devotion

God made Abram some exciting promises, but it seemed like they might be impossible. He promised Abram that he would have more descendants than the number of stars in the sky, but Abram and his wife Sarai were very old and had no children! God promised to give Abram’s family lots of land, but people already lived in that land! He promised to bless the whole world through Abram’s family, but they were sinners!

Has someone ever broken a promise to you? Perhaps someone promised to be your best friend forever, but then he grew up or moved away and now you don’t talk to him very much. Maybe your sister promised to give back the toy she borrowed, but then she forgot. It’s disappointing when promises are broken. Abram might have thought God would break these big promises that seemed impossible, but God is powerful, and He always keeps His promises.

Even though Abram and Sarai were old, God gave them a son. Eventually, they had too many descendants to count, including you! God gave them the land that He promised, and He sent Jesus through their family line to bless the whole world by dying on the cross and rising again to save them from their sins. God kept every promise He made to Abram.

God made some pretty big promises to you, and you can trust that He will keep them! God promises that He will always love you and that He is always with you. He promises to forgive your sins and to give you eternal life with Him. You can count on it!

  1. Have you broken any promises? Ask God for forgiveness.
  2. Can you name anything else God has done that seemed impossible?
  3. How have you seen God keep His promises in your life?

Let’s pray:

Dear God, thank You for always keeping Your promises to us. We praise You because You always do what You say, even when it seems impossible! Please help us to keep the promises that we make. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
