33.3 – Devotion

Many people dream of being the lucky person who wins the lottery. What would you do if you won? Some people buy mansions; others give to charity. Do you know what your odds of winning are? About 1 in 292 million. That means that if you had 292 million lottery tickets, only one of them would win the jackpot. You’d need to have an amazing stroke of luck to win against those odds.

Ready for another crazy number? What are the odds of all the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah being fulfilled? The Old Testament has over 300 prophecies about the Messiah. The chances of eight of these prophecies being fulfilled is lower than 1 in 1 quadrillion. That’s like your chances of winning the lottery 3 million times in a row. The chance of all 300 prophecies being fulfilled by one person is so slim, we don’t even have a name for the number! But we do have a name for the one person who fulfills them all: Jesus.

Jesus fulfills every single prophecy about the Messiah from the Old Testament. He was born in Bethlehem, just like Micah prophesied (Micah 5:2). He was a descendant of King David, like Jeremiah said (Jeremiah 23:5–6). Isaiah prophesied He would be the only Savior (Isaiah 43:11). There is absolutely no doubt that Jesus is the true Savior. This is no coincidence, only the power of God.

  1. Is trying to win the lottery worth it? Why or why not?
  2. What’s another prophecy in the Bible about Jesus? Did it come true?
  3. How do we know Jesus is the one true Savior?

Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to be our Savior. Thank You for Your prophets who shared Your Word, and for fulfilling all their prophecies through Jesus. Help us follow You and listen to Your Word. In Your name we pray. Amen.
